One does not need a religion to decide what is good or bad, but a brain.

Most folks don't realize that we and our characters are just as much fundamental parts of the universe as is light, matter, and gravity. Because we are part of this utterly precise clockwork, our ethos are also, and justice is an objective aspect of reality, just as is light speed, or the ideal gas law. It is not merely an article of faith that we - our persons, minds, spirits, or whatever you want to call our consciousnesses - are immortal. It is an actual physics theory known as the No Hiding theorem, which states that information cannot be lost to the universe. It was originally hypothesized regarding the physical state information of particles that fell into a black hole, the spin, velocity, angular momentum, and whatnot, and shown that such information wasn't lost with the particle that fell into the black hole, but was preserved by the interactions the particle had with the universe prior to it's disappearance.

We also interact with the universe while our meat prisons ooze and outgas, ingest and excrete, and just as some quark, our essence is encoded in our interactions prior to the cessation of independent functioning of our physical forms. The No Hiding theorem covers our immortal souls just as much as it does every neutrino, and whether by luck or wisdom, the religious assertions we go to an eternal reward turn out to be scientifically, veritably true.

While we may not need damnation to keep us from doing evil, nor harps and feathers to prompt us to do good (and the No Hiding theorem says nothing about either of those rewards being potential) we will surely reap the harvest of the consequences of our deeds for as long as time exists, and it is foolish to poorly sow such a permanent crop.

Thanks!

Silly rabbit, that's why they added the part about asking for forgiveness and all will be forgiven.
