Beyond the suffering narrative, an insight was gained.

I recently affirmed that everything in life is working together for the greatest good. Now this could be beneficial to a group of people, most likely at the expense of others, but then a more critical look at life as it turns in different directions is a realization that each piece of the puzzle fits nicely in forming the whole in the long run.

Sometime last week, my mom complained bitterly over the economic situation of things in our country. According to my mom, since the emergence of Tinubu as the president of Nigeria, it's been from one financial challenge to another, and the masses are suffering greatly. She wondered of what use Tinubu's appointment as president is and went further to question God for allowing one man to subject the masses to perpetual suffering.

I let my mom lament to her heart's content. After which I started piecing the puzzle together much to her understanding. I started by explaining the new tax reforms and briefed her on how, for the first time in the history of Nigeria, the burden of government revenue is not one for the lower class of masses to bear.

Succinctly put, low-income earners now get to enjoy their complete salary as opposed to before, when everyone got taxed regardless of earnings.
When my mom heard this, she paused. Gradually, her mood brightened, and then she said if that be the case, then the Tinubu administration has brought about something good for the masses because she remembers how in the past, every worker gets to pay tax, and it was quite frustrating, especially if one earns little.

I continued to piece the puzzle together and informed her how the tax burden increases the higher the earnings, both for individuals and companies. My mom was excited, and it's almost like she no longer has reasons to hate on the Tinubu administration.

After our little chitchat, I sealed the conversation by informing her how the new tax reforms would also give opportunities to accountants and create room for them to excel. Not only that, but the taxing system of Nigeria will now function at optimal speed with various tracking methods already in place, and trust companies will start preparing for 2026 when the reforms will commence.

In a holistic view, given the history of leadership in Nigeria, each president or leader has an area of interest.

With Tinubu it is tax; with Buhari it is economic reforms, as we now have youths venturing into agriculture, seeing that it's the new goldmine. We've also become less dependent on imported food items as a nation, and for the first time in a long while, we saw major economic projects like the railway, the second Niger bridge, and lots more come to life.

As much as I do not like the Jonathan administration, he did give Nigerians the opportunity to manage their resources through signing of the local content bill. A law that ushered Nigerians into the oil sector which was once dominated by expatriates.
