Learning From The Past - Failing To Apply
Image is mine
One of my favorite moments is watching my parents talk to each other about history. I also love reading about the history of various ages because I value knowledge.
However, one thing I have come to notice is that nothing happening is new, as humans have been known to recycle past experiences. Also, it is worth noting that we learn history to not repeat history.
Quite unfortunately, with various human races, we’ve seen a reverse. In addition to this, despite how easily accessible and available knowledge has become, we still hear about various nations and individuals alike repeating awful experiences that have played out before.
You know there is a saying that smart people learn from other people’s experiences. Yes! Experience is indeed the best teacher, but it shouldn’t be you experiencing it firsthand before you can learn the lessons.
I remember some years back that the Easterners in my country were agitating for war. Shockingly, these were the same people who were victims of the civil war in my country in 1967. Same people who, due to the stringent nature of the war, some of them turned to cannibalism.
Specifically, It was recorded that three million Easterners died from that war. It was also recorded that they forfeited their properties and were given just £20 each despite what they had deposited in their bank before the war.
Sadly, despite all these experiences, it's really surprising to see that up till this moment these people are still agitating for division and threatening war to achieve their aim. Although it has subsided, some places in the region are still like a war zone, as there are specific days that they are allowed to go about their businesses.
I do understand how frustrating the federal government could be with their policies. In fact, it's almost like each incoming president is worse than the other. But the fact remains if each state government were functioning as it should, the rot in the presidency would not be this biting.
Notably, there are 36 states in Nigeria, out of which we only have Lagos State as an industrial hub. Even Lagos State is not performing to full capacity, but compared to economic activities, it thrives more than every other state in the country. This has led to overpopulation and a choking lifestyle as everyone struggles to benefit from the state's dividend.
Furthermore, one question I have always asked is why can’t every other state thrive in economic activities like Lagos? From the knowledge that I have accumulated in my field of study over the years, It’s so glaring that a majority of the economic problems that we face in my county are not even from the presidency.
Thus, if only the various states could function to their full capacity, or even if it's half of their capacity, the actions of the FG won’t be as biting. It's just really unfortunate that we have people more concerned over the affairs of the president than that of their state governors, who owe them accountability.
Meanwhile, 2027 is around the corner, and the country is preparing for an election. Best believe that the citizens who cry and wail so much for bad governance are not even making any move to push a better opposition.
While the various existing leaders are lobbying, pitching tents, and joining forces for a return to power, we have the masses, sitting pretty and hoping for a miracle.
Currently, The street is silent, social media is distracted, and people are mostly unbothered until it's 2026 and you see them falling over themselves agitating for a better opposition. By that time, the government they are hoping to overthrow through voting is already at the corridors of power, ready for a comeback.
Indeed, my people are not ready for the change that they seek because how do they hope to win against one who is more prepared than they are?

Our best bet shouldn't be allowing experience teach us but allowing knowledge teach us
Well said dear
In nigeria history is repeating itself slowly. Nowadays we are hearing how some states are killing themselves just exactly what happened in the past, which we suppose not to let it happen this present. We should allow knowledge to teach us.
God help us

Thank you my friend 😆... well said 😊
thank you 😊
This is so true but fact is that no miracle will solve for us that which we ought to solve ourselves. The moment everyone complaining wakes up and takes a stand, that moment will be the turn around point👍
That will really be the game changer
Yeah
