Two things can be true
Too difficult not to be political today, especially because I see so many people unable to parse through these events. Binary thinking is a common illness, as far as I can tell. But it’s not really that difficult to accept the facts.

Fact number one: Iran’s regime is terrible.
Who hasn’t seen the pictures at this point? Pictures of Iran before the iron fist of conservatism took over and the culture regressed, because that is what happened. This is well documented. We don’t really need to argue that point.
The recent protests, the deaths, all of it is well documented too. As a matter of fact, there are things I know because I’ve met people from Iran while living here. You could say I heard it from the horse’s mouth.
Fact number two: The US has no business there.
The lesson apparently will never be learned. Why would it be? Where is the profit in changing our ways, the top dogs say, as they negotiate their deals behind closed doors.
It would be a little comical if it weren’t so sad. The peace candidate, the one who said over and over while he campaigned, “No more wars.” The one who accused Obama of instigating Iran, of plotting a war to distract people from the terrible job he was supposedly doing. It all now looks like a Nostradamus-style admission, if such a thing even exists.
Again, two things can be true.
Saying the US should have never gotten involved is not an endorsement of Iran’s regime. It’s a recognition of reality. It’s not our business. How does this help the US? How is this America First? What happened to “no more war”?
Another campaign promise down the gutter. Am I really surprised? Of course not. Not even a little bit. I am sad, however. Sad because the rot keeps rotting, and the grifters keep losing their souls in the name of a paycheck.
The mental chip in the loyal flock has already been swapped. Right now, the same people who called Harris a warmonger are cheering with excitement.
Yes, this is the world we live in now. No maps are provided. Find your way through the dark.

No matter how long this goes on, or where it spreads, a lot of people are going to make money. A lot of people are going to die (are now dying). I'm not clever. I can see some of the beneficiaries of this war, but there is such a level of muck hidden from view that I can't possibly know them all. One thing for sure. We are getting burned and other people are getting exactly what they want. U. S. security be damned, because this is certainly not good for U.S. security. Risks to our security come from other places in the world.
Hard to think of anything else, but we have to, don't we? Basically, we have no control over, not even an effect on, the course of events.
I can't help but feel this is a distraction from the faltering economy and unfolding Epstein scandal.
Tail wagging the dog? Yea, I thought about that. But there is more going on. Kushner's involvement is interesting. He has a strong relationship with Netanyahu. Both Kushner and Trump have their eyes on Gaza as a beachfront resort (I know, I know, please don't roll your eyes). With Iran out of the way, with the rest of the Middle Eastern countries cowed, does this open the path? Think of what Huckabee just said. It's all too complicated for me, but these are greedy, scheming, ruthless (madmen, I think). Trump hasn't got that long to achieve his goals. Midterms don't look good. Do this while Netanyahu is still in power, while Trump is still strong? I don't know. Just an idea. But Kushner over there negotiating with Iran...And who knows what side deals they have with China and Russia to stand down while we are distracted.
There is so much we do not, cannot know. All we know is we are paying. People are dying, and lot of people are going to get rich with this war.
How cynical do I sound?
Edit: Just looked up this article from the Times of Israel, January 26 (after I wrote my comment to you). A quote from that article:
Who knows what these people are thinking? Nothing good.
It isn't cynicism when history is on your side.
:(
See my edit above about January meeting between Kushner and Netanyahu
The story is always, "The US has no business policing the world," but also, "this time it's different, and we need to DO SOMETHING!" But before the recent attack, polls were suggesting 70-80% of Americans opposed intervening, and negotiations were apparently progressing, yet Netanyahu and Trump attacked anyway. Nothing about this war warranted emergency airstrikes now.
